Waiting Period

What it means, and what it does to a claim.

A stretch of time at the start of a policy when certain conditions are not covered yet. It runs from the day the policy begins, not from the day you fall ill.

Why it matters

Waiting periods are why insurance has to be bought before you need it rather than when you need it. They pass whether or not you hold a policy, so the cheapest year to start serving them is the earliest one. Buying young is mostly about getting these out of the way while you are healthy.

Claim settlement ratios and complaint volumes are three-year averages for FY 2024–26. Premiums are indicative illustrations for the stated profile, not quotes — your actual premium depends on your age, health, city, habits and underwriting. Scores are Myinsurancebro's own assessment.
