Medical Practitioner
What it means, and what it does to a claim.
Someone holding a valid registration with a State or national Medical Council, whether allopathic, Indian medicine or homeopathy. They must be acting within the scope of that registration.
Why it matters
Claims are declined over this more often than people expect. Treatment by someone not registered, or by a registered practitioner working outside their field, may not be covered. Most policies also exclude treatment by you or an immediate family member, however qualified they are.
