Medical Advice

What it means, and what it does to a claim.

Any consultation or advice from a registered practitioner, including a prescription or a repeat prescription.

Why it matters

This is the quiet half of the pre-existing-disease test. A condition counts as pre-existing if you received medical advice for it in the look-back window — no diagnosis and no treatment required. A consultation about symptoms, or a repeat prescription you barely think about, is enough to make it declarable.

The legal definition

Disclaimer: Figures shown here are compiled from IRDAI annual reports and public grievance disclosures, and from insurer public disclosures and policy wordings. Claim settlement ratios and complaint volumes are three-year averages for FY 2024–26. Premiums are indicative illustrations for the stated profile, not quotes — your actual premium depends on your age, health, city, habits and underwriting. Scores are Myinsurancebro's own assessment.
